Shogun out, Okami in vs. OSP at UFC Fight Night 117

Saturday, September 16, 2017

It was announced during Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 116 that UFC Fight Night 117 on September 23 was getting a new main event. Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua is out, and opponent Ovince Saint-Preux now fights Yushin Okami in Japan. The cause was a knee injury.

Okami has not fought in the UFC since losing to ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC Fight Night 28 on September 4, 2013. Since then he has fought for the WSoF, DEEP, Pancrase, and the PFL. He is currently on a four-fight win streak. Okami has been fighting at 185 and 170, but will be fighting at 205 after taking the fight on six days notice.

OSP is coming off a win over Marcos Rogerio de Lima Submission via Von Flue choke at UFC Fight Night 108 on April 22. Prior to that he had been on a three-fight losing streak, starting with a decision loss to Jon Jones for the UFC interim light heavyweight championship on April 23, 2016. Then he was knocked out by Jimi Manuwa in Round 2 in October. And then he lost a Split Decision to Volkan Oezdemir on February 4, 2017.

He will be the favorite on September 23. However, by some readings biblical prophecy of the ‘Rapture’ predicts the apocalypse will occur on that exact date, so perhaps anything could happen 😉
