Sonnen defeats Rampage to move forward in tournament

Saturday, January 20, 2018

The main event of Bellator 192 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA featured the first Heavyweight Grand Prix bout between Chael Sonnen and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Chael Sonnen was giving up 31 pounds to Quinton Jackson on Saturday night. The fight served as a lesson in mixed martial arts, though.

It wasn’t the size of “Rampage” or the power in his hands that made all the difference. It was the wily Sonnen’s technique and superior wrestling and grappling skills that won the day.

Sonnen defeated Jackson by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) in the main event of Bellator 192 at The Forum to advance in the Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix tournament. Next up will be a matchup against the winner of an April fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Frank Mir.
