George Sotiropoulos had an impressive six-year run in the UFC, beginning in 2007. He won seven in a row, capped with defeating Joe Stevenson, Kurt Pellegrino, and Joe Lauzon, and winning Fight of the Night vs. JLau and Batman. Then he lost four in a row and was released in 2013. He had one more fight outside the UFC, and retired.

The hope for every fighter is that they want to stay in the game and can transition to coaching, as did, for example, Matt Serra.

Sotiropoulos owns rental property and has a bachelor’s degree in banking and Finance. He fought not because he had to, but because he loves it. Now he has opened up an academy, because he loves it.

The new Omega Jiu-Jitsu & MMA Academy located at 6 Down Street, Collingwood, VIictoria, Australia recently opened. The grand opening highlighted a variety of martial arts that are taught at the academy, including Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, and Striking.

Omega is a unique, modern, safe and clean facility. The academy will host several classes daily and will be taught by the BJJ black belt and TUF coach. Sotiropoulos has trained with legends of the martial arts over the course of a journey that began over two decades ago.

“My goal is to provide the complete mixed martial arts experience in both training and instruction,” said Sotiropoulos. “I am here to help people succeed, no matter what their ability or fitness level.”

The classes will take place in an environment that offers a unique mix of equipment and amenities to help members achieve their martial arts objectives. Features include:
•A broad range of martial arts classes (Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Striking).
•A 4300 square foot facility in the heart of Melbourne, Australia, equipped with 2000 square feet of mat space, plus a dedicated kickboxing area with heavy bags.
•Classes suitable to all levels (adults and children).
•Support programs, such as personal training.
