Torres: Pennington and I agree with corner decision to fight on
Raquel Pennington suffered a beating at the hands of UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes on Saturday night at UFC 224. After the fourth round, Pennington was heard saying she was done. But she came out for the fifth, and was beaten worse.
Corner: “No, no, no, no.”

UFC middleweight champ Tyron Woodley was among the countless onlookers who was not impressed.
“I’m not going to give the benefit of the doubt [to Pennington’s coaches,” said Woodley, as transcribed by Damon Martin for MMA Weekly. “If your fighter says ‘I want to be done’, then she wants to be done. Allow her to say, hey fight’s over with, take no more damage. Yes, we want to see a great fight, we love to see blood and back and forth wars and yeah she could have came back with a KO punch and won the fight.
“But she stated ‘I want to be done’. That’s her preference. Allow her to have that. The fight should have been done at the end of fourth round.”
However, Pennington’s fiancee, UFC strawweight Tecia Torres, defended the corner.
“I am extremely proud of my lady,” wrote Torres on her social network. “You are a warrior babe. Fought every second you possibly could. You continue to amaze me daily. You motivate me to work hard and one day too receive the same opportunity to fight for a UFC championship. We are the 1%ers. Very few will ever know what we go thru as fighters and an even smaller percentage will ever earn the chance to fight on such a big stage and for a world title.”
“PS: Both us and our coaches agree with the decision made to go into the 5th round. We know Raquel more than anyone else and know if we let her give up on herself going into the last round she would have always regretted it. She fought with heart and grit until the end.
“PSS: Exactly one year ago today you asked me to marry you, I can’t freaking wait to wife you!”
