UFC 207: The Thrill and the Agony preview

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

The Thrill and the Agony is a continuing UFC Fight Pass original series, something like Embedded, but of the fight itself. It goes behind the scenes – what takes place out of view of the PPV cameras.

TTATA promises viewers will, “Experience the heartbreak and elation that is reality for the fighters.”

At UFC 207, the series delivers, with tears.

Cody Garbandt is overcome explaining how much Maddux Maple’s successful fight vs. cancer meant to him. Urijah Faber is overcome saying how much Garbandt’s win meant. Faber retired unable to beat Dominick Cruz. And the entire Team Alpha Male he founded was unable to beat Dominick Cruz, until UFC 207.

And Ronda Rousey’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan is entirely overcome, and reduced to howls of lamentation like something out of a Shakespearian tragedy.

Mixed martial arts focuses on the great, elevating wins, but every front has a back, and it can, in its way, be just as compelling.

Other UFC Fight Pass original series include

•Where Are They Now?
•Twenty/20 Classics
