White: Lee vs. Ferguson to fight for Interim title at UFC 216
UFC president Dana White spoke recently with Brett Okamoto for ESPN, and said that Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee would fight for the Interim lightweight title at UFC 216 on October 7, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Three times the league had scheduled Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov and each time it fell through, most recently when ‘The Eagle’ suffered complications from a weight cut. White reported that Lee was in as Nurmagomedov was “not ready.”

Curiously, the pair had bickered online about fighting each other earlier in the week.
Nurmagomedov: “I’m waiting for you in New York … just take this fight, everybody waiting your decision.”
Ferguson: “Your Informed @ufc U Are Not Well Enough To Fight Me At MSG, Turned Down The Fight On Your Behalf. Don’t Fool Your Fans.”
Nurmagomedov: “You don’t need my manager, I’m the one who fights with you. Take the fight or tell fans that you looking for easy way.”
Nurmagomedov may have his sights higher still. UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has mused about a fight between the pair in Russia later in the year.
