The McGregor vs. Mayweather fight that has been floated since May appears to be developing some legs. Yesterday, Mayweather compared himself to an elephant and McGregor to an ant. McGregor dismissed the dismissal by saying “say it to my face.”
For now many months, UFC president Dana White repeatedly said, “Floyd, call me.” But Mayweather never picked up the phone, and McGregor contractually cannot compete in any professional fight without White’s ok. However, White ran into Mayweather’s friend and associate 50 Cent at a restaurant during UFC 205 fight week, and was made to believe Mayweather was serious.
Now TMZ Sports has reached out to White over Mayweather’s Elephant-Ant comment.
“Conor McGregor … if he touches you, you go to sleep,” said White. “Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands. You know how Floyd knocks people out? When they’re not looking. Watch the Victor Ortiz fight.”
“This kid’s just getting started. This kid’s 28 years old. Floyd can say what he wants about Conor, but even other fighters have to respect him. He’s special. Floyd’s never even come close to doing to other fighters what Conor does.”
White went on to offer Mayweather respect for all he has accomplished but noted correctly that Conor is the future.
