In "Battlin Jack Murdock"

Carmine Di Giandomenico does the artwork and it's not so much that the linework is extraordinary but the fact he does it all himself, the pencil, inks (which is not uncommon in Europe) but also colours which are imo stunning throughout the whole book (1-4 issues). It all works to great effect he creates atmosphere, reactions, scale and depth and the people dont all look like  the same person with different hair and I find that hugely important now.

I'm up to issue 3 so far (reading the tpb) but I just had to share my feelings on the artwork as it's quite current in relation to the work i'm trying to achieve or at least a lot of the dynamics he has created and to be honest it's a good read so far too.

Dead Again I got Pride of Baghdad from the library some months back and forgot to make a thread, really beautiful story, I think that was the debut of the artist too which blows my mind.

Sure they would really dig it on the Geek ground if you did put it up. Thanks again

Niko Henrichon had actully done an 8pg Sandman Presents story and a 120+ pg OGN called Barnum! before he did Pride of Baghdad.

On the topic of artists who do all the art themselves, I gotta add a few.

James Stokoe blows my mind with every issue of Orc Stain. The designs and technology he puts into that world are mind blowing.

Clayton Crain is a genius as long as you can handle computer generated art, sometimes his art is a little dark but I'vw always enjoyed his work.

Also I've never seen his work before but Christian Duce who just did Ides of Blood for Wildstorm was great. Ides of Blood was a great mix of vampires and Roman society so I recommend checking it out.

I like the art but have to say I don't like the coloring.

Artwise it kind of looks like Frank Miller with Barry Windsor Smith's blood.

I cant see Bart Sears that much, I think the anatomy is much more realistic.

The colouring is superb on this book imo, the lighting and tonal changes and the environmental lighting is stunning.

Really enjoyed this series, but felt like it was pretty repetitive to the Frank Miller series, DD The Man Without Fear. I guess it just goes in depth with his dad, which iirc was mostly glossed over in the Miller series. Its been a while since I've read that series, but it is definitely my favorite mini series of all time and what made me fall in love with the DD character. Anyway, thanks for posting this!
