Very glad Thiago Silva did not take the Roger Clemons route with this situation! I'll echo many here on the Underground when I say I have nothing but respect for the guy! He is a fan favorite as well as one of my favorite Light Heavyweights to watch in the UFC! I think there is much to be said when a pro athlete comes clean about a failed medical/substance test, owns up to his mistakes and faces the music like a man. I truly believe Thiago will learn from this mistake and move on to growing in his MMA career! The bigger point I wanted to make is, there is an alarming rate of fighters who do sustain many injuries and must be sidelined for considerable lengths of times due to the fact that they are limited in the types of substances they can use to regain there pre-injury physical health status. Many times the case is that these fighters and there DR's have limited options when it comes to recovery plans due to these banned substances, especially when it would be used in conjunction with strict Dr. supervision and only taken in a limited and short period of time during recovery. There have been, and still are many top level fighters who deal with these circumstances on a constant basis. I just hope this will at the very least open up a dialog between fighters, their Dr's, Athletic Commissions and promotions! And my deepest respect goes out to Thiago, hope to see him in the Octagon real soon, because he is a talented and exciting fighter!

Yes, but the devil is in the reason why. To make it seem like it was necessary for him to train and he wasn't taking roids to improve performance. He didn't look like his back was bothering him that night, thats for sure. And his coaches would know about all of this, because it would effect his training. More bs, IMO.

JUST SAY IT. "I didn't want to lose at any cost, so I used steroids to improve my chances"

Come on man, don't tell me you're snowed by this douche.

Wes_Mantooth - I still go back to my original comment, he said no one from his team, trainers, cornermen knew anything about this. That sounds like 100% pure bullshit to me. Pure bullshit.

I agree. When you have TEAM MATES that have been caught it kind of makes this statement hard to take.

ChokeEmOut -  I cannot help but laugh everytime I see a fighter is caught with banned substances. The holier than thou crowd comes out ranting and raving when most substances that are taken are to heal injuries and allow the fighter to train and fight, you know make a living.

No human being on this fucking planet can train MMA at the professional level and not tear his/her body to complete shit. Get the fuck off your high horses and face reality. You want the athletes to compete at the highest levels imaginable and then appear baffled when it is found they take supplements to help with repairing and healing of injuries? LOL!

These athletes train at a level that is unimaginable to the every day person. Oh, you go to a pajama wrestling class 4-5x a week? Yeah, that is a far cry from training like a professional athlete.

The attitude twoards atheltes and ilegal substances is asinine.

You can try to justify it but as long as it's against the rules he's wrong. If he doesn't like the rules then take his ass somewhere else to compete that doesn't drug test.

Hired Gun - Why is it time after time we see fighters from American Top Team being involved with some type of cheating? Is it something the gym promotes or excepted by the entire environment?

It's truly sad that this happens but one it keeps coming from one common denominator.

People can flame away but check the track record first.

I thought it was ironic that he had to use non-human piss... wouldn't be because everyone around him was dirty also??

Personally, I believe PED's should be allowed in sports. Let's level the playing field. That having been said, they're currently STILL against the rules. He broke another man's face and played bongos on his butt while cheating. Sorry, but you get no respect from me. I hope you're punishment isn't too severe. Phone Post

I hope this was mentioned already but if not, are people already forgetting that Silva denied all wrongdoing when it first came back that he'd been left off the list of cleared UFC 125 fighters?

A quote from his conversation with Tatame about the situation:

"I did two exams, one come back negative and the other positive. My blood is clean, I know. I didn't take anything, I'm cool with that."

Yes, he's admitted it now but only AFTER denying it in the first place (Option #1 on his list I believe). I respect the fact he came clean but let's not pretend it didn't take yesterday's NSAC statement to produce the honesty on his part. This seems like as much a way of trying to potentially reduce his punishment rather as it does a noble move.

Never gonna "Hate" on a guy like this. Sometimes you try to get away and you get caught.

he got caught, plenty of guys dont.

Much respect for such an honest, and open apology and explanation.

I don't know if I have seen such an open explanation and apology before from an MMA fighter.

I love watching this guy fight, and I wouldn't have been able to do what he just did.

I respect the honesty, but also question why this is coming now?  Why wasn't an apology like this given when the speculation started?  It almost seems as if all other avenues of escape are being shut down, so now give an apology?

I dunno, maybe that's being a bit harsh, but that is my first reaction.

MMA is a huge business where livelyhood depends on it. Gotta do what you have to do sometimes.

I can understand this, however at the same time I won't respect someone who "came clean" only after not only denying all of this for several months but then gets busted. I would much prefer if you came out after the fight saying "I used PEDs, go ahead and suspend me" instead of dragging it out for months. It takes a man to admit a wrong doing after the clouds have cleared. It takes a man whos been backed up against a wall to admit a wrong doing after months of denying he did nothing wrong.

However, we are all still flawed humans. Time to forgive but don't forget.
