46and2 - Ok, I have to first admit I didn't read all 10 pages of this thread so far (forgive me I am @ work)

But, I must say that I do not buy for a second his excuse about why he used a urine adulterant (Which is SO stupid, why not just use someone elses urine, DUH?!?!)

Also, I must say that I don't judge a pro athlete for PED use whatsoever, and think they should be allowed in pro sports.

I am not sure whether corticosteroid injections are banned by the athletic commissions, but Im thinking you could easily get that OK'ed and still be allowed to fight. Im sure most of you know those types of steroids are NOT the same as anabolic/androgenic steroids (which are the "real" PEDs)

I think he juiced and tried to cover his tracks w/ a urine adulterant or synthetic urine (both of which are really stupid IMO) Maybe he really used the roids to help heal his back, they will make a muscle injury heal faster (although not so much a disc problem or something like that really) But IMO this is not just about him being worried they wouldn't let him fight after having a epidural steroid injection or whatever........

Just my opinion, I don't personally think any less of the guy and people dumping him as fans and people saying he's a cheater, well, you're just dumb as fuck, don't understand sports and/or making your living FROM pro sports, and that's all there is to it :)

You're in the vast minority of fans who advocate the blanket legalization of PED's. Your argument is rudimentary enough that you have to call those who (rightly) call T. Silva a cheater "dumb as fuck".

not sure if i "respect" him since it was a scumbag thing to take PED.

i do think he handled his situation the best way you can though which is by coming clean.

in a sport where people constantly lie after testing positive its refreshing to hear someone admit too it, those saying they dont respect him? like he gives a fuck, he may have used whatever it was he did but the guys got a crippling and well documented back injury, and hes also from brazil, where ped aren't exactly frowned upon, and steroids are an over the counter drug. Funny though how many people are willing to accept his apologie compaired to those who accepted bispings, amusing how liking/disliking a fighter makes them easier to forgive.

You're in the vast minority of fans who advocate the blanket legalization of PED's. Your argument is rudimentary enough that you have to call those who (rightly) call T. Silva a cheater "dumb as fuck".

I agree with your first sentence, but I need to add that while Im in the minority of fans that advocate the use, Im also in the minority of fans that have any type of understanding of PED's outside what the DARE officer in school and jackasses in the news tell me.

My argument was rudimentary? What was I arguing here? Because Im pretty sure if I was arguing anything in that post, it was that I think he juiced and lied about it. Which is an idea I figured most of you nancy boy, uneducated steroid witch hunters would jump on.

It's not cheating when damned near everyone does/has done it. It also doesn't make you a better fighter, and most people who have tested positive have in fact lost their respective bout in which they used the PEDs!

Have an original thought for once in your life and realize you've been fed nothing but misinformation about steroids your entire life, and your opinion that they are the devil and "cheating" stems only from your ignorance and trust in the media and government (which banned steroids against the will of the DEA, the FDA, and every doctor they had testify)

Not trying to be a dick, and I shouldn't have called people "dumb fucks" but I really get frustrated at this witch hunt, which is EXACTLY what it is. Just a bunch of uninformed people who have this sense of evil towards steroids rooted so deep in their minds, it's just crazy. And 90% of the evil feelings are there because of misinformation and believing exactly what the government and media want you to.....

So now we get these guys that are trying to make a living in a sport where one loss can get you cut, so they try something to simply help them heal after their intense workouts.... Then they drop dirty on a test (while every other fighter sighs in relief because they managed to cycle his roids right and pass the test) and that fighter is labeled as a cheater, many people HATE, and I mean FUCKING HATE a fighter that tests positive (even though 90%+ of their favorites have or do use them) and they get a year suspension, lose tons of money, current and future sponsors, etc etc.

So, there's part of my argument.... Sorry if it's rudimentary :)

A very clever tactic on Silva's part owning up to it. Not only does he get praise and respect from his fans but seems to be gaining new fans because of his confession. This seems to be the best thing that could of happened to him. Drugs certainly hasn't ruined his life. IMO Phone Post

Big mistake from Thiago as much as we may like it. In these cases it always pays to deny. They will hit him with the full penalty now with no chance of appeal.

If you believe he actually wrote that statement, you are kidding yourself!

He is not an honest guy, nor does he deserve repsect.  If we was honest and wanted to be accountable and forthright, he would have admitted it after the fight.  Not weeks later when the ATT PR Dept has had the time to put their spin on it.

He doesn't deserve respect until he can serve his suspension and then run off some clean fights.

You were told that your argument is rudimentary because it is composed of logical fallacies.
Steroids are illegal and banned in sports, and this is why it is considered cheating. Your opinion on the actual ethics of steroid use does not change this.
Your strawman assumption that "everybody does it" is false, bandwagon logic. There are many athletes who do not cheat. Yes, using steroids is cheating. It is against the rules of MMA and federal law. People that feel this way understand that rules are rules; just because someone does not agree with your opinion does not make them "dumb as fuck". Your idea that because "everybody" uses steroids (which, as said before, is totally untrue) does not make them exempt from being labeled cheaters. If "everybody" from a said organization robbed a bank, it would not be ok. Even if you thought that robbing banks was acceptable practice, as you feel about steriod use, it would still be stealing and against the rules/law.

If you are so knowledgable on the use and effects of steriods, then feel free to qualify that statement with reasons rather than attributing those who have different opinions as "dumb as fuck." There is a difference between uninformed and dumb.

Yes, you are correct that athletes sometimes use steroids to heal injuries rather than enhance performance, but if you compare Thiago's physique now to what it was back when he was fighting, say, James Irvin, one could reasonably wonder if Thiago had used steroids for physical enhancement.

Even if you cannot sympathize with the argument that steroid use in sports is wrong, surely you acknowledge that trying to cover up test results is cheating?

Cheers.

sociaLheadachE - He's a fucking cheater. Fuck Thiago, what a piece of shit. No respect for liars and cheaters. ATT should kick this idiot out. <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Seems like you have no respect for fighters. Thiago obviously had good intentions and only had the substance in his system because of his back surgery. He did not want to say anything because he thought it would hinder his chances of fighting. Now he makes a statement speaking the entire truth, admitting his mistake and saying he will become a better person for this. And you crucify him for this? How are you a better person than Thiago... go take your ignorance somewhere else.

JonasLind -  Am I the only one who is not buying this "I only did it to heal my back" baloney? The kid looked like a mini hulk vs vera Phone Post

No.

I really don't get the love fest in this thread. Silva went into that fight jacked up on God knows what, engaged in all sorts of disrespectful roid rage induced antics while beating Vera down, briefly cost Vera his job with his cheating, repeatedly LIED about cheating after he was first busted and now someone from ATT posts an apology that he didn't write, and half the UG kneels down to kiss his ass while pontificating about what a "classy" guy he is.

I just don't understand this forum sometimes.
