This is one of many reasons why this sport needs regulation everywhere. It is unconscionable that Jewels is not picking up the costs for an injury sustained in a fight.

You've made a lot money from this site. Maybe you can help?

That's sincere and not an attack Phone Post 3.0

Wow, that was an incredibly easy process to donate. Hope she gets this fixed, and the promoter loses a testicle to a polar bear.

If a fighter has to leave their country for an event they must make sure they are insured either through the event insurance or through their own. This is also where a good manager would be useful. An event flying in a fighter from Norway but not insuring them for the event is unreal.

In this case hind sight is 20/20, what is done is done.

Pressure needs to be put on the promoter to make things right.

I hope she makes a full recovery. I also hope her bill works out either through the generocity of fans and businesses or through the promotion owning up to its short comings (and making them right).

I really hope she didn't travel to FIGHT overseas without ANY kind of inscurance.

I've tipped Norway's biggest MMA site about this thread and hopefully they will shed some light on the story back home.

I hope that the ORG she was fighting in was pretending that they were providing insurance, because if they were open with the fact that they didn't have insurance.....

Regular travel insurance, which is what Celine had, doesnt cover injuries from mma and boxing fights. Although i am not sure, i dont think you would get any Norwegian company to insure against injuries from mma. Phone Post 3.0

I have close to $30,000 worth of unpaid medical bills due to my fight career. Total Combat, Rage In The Cage, etc all told me I was "covered" by event insurance...only to have the insurance companies actively look for loop holes not to pay.

In fact my medical bills for TUF 9 are the only medical bills from fighting that a promotion has ever actually paid without letting it go to collections Phone Post 3.0

Why agree to fight with no insurance coverage?

Does the Jewels promotion mislead fighters in some way regarding medical insurance?

Is the Norwegian medical system not clear about what it covers while out of Norway?

Bad situation that could happen to a lot of people. Will donate when I get home to a computer. Phone Post

I chipped in a tenspot.

Also, I was going to point out that Jewels went out of business (not to defend their actions, just to say they probably couldn't be harassed to cover her bills now), but apparently this fight was at the first women's event under Deep, who bought out Jewels.

I really, really expect better from Deep and it's completely fucked up that they aren't covering this. Pancrase is still the sleaziest Japanese org, but I guess Deep comes in at #2 now. Japan definitely needs to implement some sort of really basic fucking oversight on this sort of thing.

Celine Haga is a female fighter from Norway, and one of my best friends. In her last Jewels fight, her orbital bone got broken in the first round, pushing her eye back. She still finished the fight!  She couldn't  go back to Norway after because of the airpressure, so she had to do the surgery in Tokyo, and do some graft of a hipbone....it didn't go very well. Stayed in hospital for 2 weeks.

She is still seeing double, even weeks after her fight!

It costed ca 90 000 nok or 15, 000 US Dollars. She has no insurance in Norway cover any injuries related to martial art. (more details here)

Basically, I'm asking for help to pay her medical bill! If everybody gives ten dollars, it will make a huge difference in her life!

Thank you!

That sucks Rox. I really hope she is able to recover from both the physical and financial trauma soon. Phone Post

It's crazy how when a foreigner does something to a Japanese person (ie a break-in, or crime) they go full force at the offender and try to shame them as much as they can. Yet when a gaijin gets screwed over people put their head in the sand and hope the problem just goes away. I loved living in Japan but sometimes that place pisses me off too. Phone Post 3.0

Norwegian medical system doesnt cover treatment abroad, your travel insurance does. But they dont cover injuries from mma fights and probably a bunch of other activities they consider reckless. Phone Post 3.0
