Hövding is an airbag bicycle helmet housed within a scarf, invented by Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin in Malmö, Sweden in 2005. The invention was launched on the market in 2011.
The idea was based on the premise that while cyclists are aware of the dangers of biking without a helmet, they still choose to not wear one due to appearance, bulkiness, discomfort, and of course, hair issues.
The Hövding's collar contains a nylon airbag with a gas inflator, which is triggered upon a collision. Something like Iron Man's suit, the airbag releases in .1 second, becoming a hood that encircles the head, providing shock absorption and pressure.
To buy a Hovding, go to shop.hovding.com/. Cost is 400 Euros, or something over 500 US $. It comes in four basic color patterns, and basic black. Once inflated, the Hövding cannot be used again. So if you fall off your bike while wearing one, make sure you do so in a potentially injuriosu fashion, so it is worth it.
