Bill Murray isn't just a living legend; he's an urban legend, randomly popping up all over the world at keg parties, karaoke nights and other utterly unexpected places.
And "Zombieland" had the best cameo in the history of cinema, no question.
Road House co-star Kelly Lynch says that Murray calls her husband, Mitch Glazer (co-writer of Murray’s 1988 Christmas Carol redux Scrooged), whenever the movie is on TV during one scene in particular:
"Every time Road House is on and he or one of his idiot brothers are watching TV," said Lynch. "And they’re always watching TV — one of them calls my husband and says, 'Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. They’re doing it. He’s throwing her against the rocks.' [Away from the receiver.] What? Oh, my God. Mitch was just walking out the door to the set, and he said that Bill once called him from Russia."
The sex-scene heckling is so reliable that Lynch has come to expect it every time — and she means every single time — Road House is on TV, which is a whole hell of a lot of times. “I dread it,” she says. “If I know it’s coming on — and I can tell when it’s coming on, because it blows up on Twitter when it is — I’m just like, ‘Oh, my God …’ And God help me when AMC’s doing their Road House marathon, because I know the phone is just going to keep ringing. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 or 3 in morning. ‘Hi, Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now …’”
Murray's greatness shone too in Stockholm, where Murray was cited for Driving a Golf Cart While Under the Influence.
The cops "asked me to come over and they assumed that I was drunk and I explained to them that I was a golfer," Murray told reporters.
The star said he was in Stockholm to play in a Pro-Am golf tournament, and hitched a ride to a post-event party in a golf cart. When no one wanted to drive home, he volunteered to play chauffeur.
"I ended up stopping and dropping people off on the way like a bus. I had about six people in the thing and I dropped them off one at a time."
Police pulled him over as he stopped to drop off his last passengers at a 7-Eleven, Murray said, adding, "I didn't know they had 7-Elevens in Stockholm."
Swedish police took a blood test after the actor refused a breath test. If tests show his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit – said to be very low in Sweden.
The stories get some confirmation from OGer thebronxbomber.
He has a summer house next to my home town called homer. I believe his fathers name is homer so Everytime he's in town he throws on a homer hat an shirt comes to the local bar and hangs out buying everyone drinks shooting the shit. Only time he gets aggravated is when some one starts talking movies with him. He considers what he does a job and just like anyone else who wants to sit and talk about work. Doesn't matter how packed place is he walks in and buys everyone a round sits his ass down and gets drunk like the rest of us. Shooting pool and playing darts. Iv drank with him probably 7-8x over the years.
