President Obama's vacations cost taxpayers nearly $3 million

Mr. Obama combined his trip to Palm Springs with an event to highlight California’s severe drought. Critics noted he spent the rest of the weekend golfing on exclusive courses in the desert that use about 1 million gallons of water per day to keep them green.

During March 7-9, the First Family spent Spring Break at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla., where members must have a minimum net worth of $35 million to join. Other expenses of that trip have not been made public.

“It is clear that the Obamas continually abuse the perks of the president’s office at taxpayer expense,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “And it is particularly interesting that Obama has chosen to take not one but two luxury vacations back-to-back while inveighing against ‘income equality.’ President Obama’s waste of the hard-earned tax dollars of working Americans on unnecessary luxury travel is an abuse of office.”

According to records obtained by Judicial Watch, through Freedom of Information Act requests and lawsuits, the Obamas and Vice President Joseph R. Biden and wife Jill have spent more than $40 million taxpayer dollars on trips since 2009.

So it's ok if the president goes on multiple five star luxury vacations, that he doesn't pay for, as long as it keeps him from blowing up the world? Sounds like you are the type to hold the government accountable for their actions...

Technically speaking no matter what he buys or even his own salary is supported by taxpayers dollars. It's not like he is shaving money off taxpayers. I don't like him as a president but I find it funny that every time a president does something for himself it's abuse of tax payers dollars. He might be a shitty prez. But he is still entitled to a vacation.

LOL, your response is a Newsmax article which refutes absolutely nothing. Your claim is that somehow Michelle Obama's international trips are much more expensive than Laura Bush's were, even though Laura Bush took far more of them for far more days. Yet you obviously cannot substantiate this at all and are now grasping at straws. You get pissy with me without provocation, you accuse me of dishonesty, and then you refuse to accept evidence that contradicts your position, while providing none of your own. You are a total cunt and not worth my time. Good day to you.

Where is the Occupy crowd?Funny thing with leftist history...the politicians always end up living like kings....without having to actually build a business, satisfy a customer, etc....Yet the lemmings have no problem with this. How odd.

Newsmax Michelle Obama's Beijing Hotel Was Deemed Too Costly for Biden Trip Monday, March 24, 2014 04:11 PM   By: Joe Battaglia The anticipated cost of Michelle Obama's trip to China is raising eyebrows after a recent report revealed that similar planned expenses for Vice President Joe Biden were deemed to be cost "prohibitive" on his trip there last year. The first lady, her daughters Sasha and Malia, her mother, and an entourage of 70 support staff arrived in China on Thursday for a week-long visit that has been labeled part tourism, part soft diplomacy. Urgent: Is Obamacare Hurting Your Wallet? Vote in Poll  The group has been staying at the 5-star Westin Chaoyang Hotel near the U.S. embassy in Beijing. The Obamas are staying in the hotel's presidential suite, which carries a price tag of about $8,400 per night, according to USA Today.  According to the hotel website, the Jinmao Presidential Suite is 3,445 square feet and includes a kitchen, bar, sauna, jacuzzi, dining table for six, a 50-inch interactive flat-screen television, Bose audio system, a private gym and 24-hour butler service. Federal Business Opportunities, the government contracting website, released documents last week that indicated the cost of staying at the Westin Chaoyang was deemed too expensive for Biden and his staff, who wound up staying at the St. Regis instead. That trip cost an estimated $384,479.19, as 1,345 room nights needed to be reserved for advance preparation, lodging, and office space for security, communications and staff. "Westin Chaoyang — price was prohibitive when compared with St. Regis — otherwise met requirements," the document states. Another hotel, The Grand Hyatt Beijing, was also eliminated because of security concerns. "Westin Choayang expressed interest and was considered. In preliminary price comparisons, the costs were tens of thousands of dollars over the St. Regis. We requested a price reduction but a great cost difference remained."  According to The Weekly Standard, the State Department is supposed to post hotel contracts exceeding $150,000 within 30 days. It is unclear whether Obama's trip will meet that criteria, but it appears highly likely that it will. This isn't the first trip by the Obamas to draw ire over its cost to taxpayers.  A trip to Africa by the president and first lady in June 2013 drew estimates ofas much as $100 million in total costs. Also that month, Michelle Obama's two-day trip to Ireland cost an estimated $5 million. A return trip to Africa for the funeral of Nelson Mandela cost in excess of $11 million. According to Judicial Watch, a Freedom of Information lawsuit revealed"President Obama incurred $7,396,531.20 in flight expenses alone for his 2013 vacations to Hawaii and Martha's Vineyard and his trip to California to appear on the Jay Leno show." "It's very rare that I have the opportunity to travel outside of the United States, and it's even more rare to have the opportunity to travel with three generations -- with my daughters, and with my mother," Michelle Obama said, Agence France-Presse reports.

I've looked at that page. It only lists number of days on international trips. Not the number of people who traveled with the first lady, no domestic trips and certainly not the cost involved!

Hmm, this article from the National Taxpayers Union (not a particularly pro-Obama source) seems to imply that Laura Bush's first-term international travel absolutely dwarfed Michelle Obama's, and that Laura's international travel increased significantly in GWB's second term: are you going to eat crow now or are you going to continue being a passive-aggressive cunt?

I did say it. You will weasel your way out of it but not admit to anything implicating Obama.
