"also johnny, you're going to build somethign looking like that red one? kickass!! what's the ground clearance on those things?" A little like that, I'm losing the vents on under the windscreen so I can lower the screen, changing the roofline, probably wont go quite so big on they tyre front (I'd like to have a turning circle smaller than an ocean liner) different winch etc but in that sort of area. "nice johnny,i assume you'll compete it, what comps do you plan on running?" The design, being all aluminium, breaks FIA spec for most competitions (cross country rallies etc), so I'll probably be limited to winch challenges and local local events, but then this is being built for hauling heavy stuff around when needed and driving up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, if I wanted to compete seriously I'd just buy a Bowler, or build something similar (which I might do anyway if I get bored), not try running something with a 10foot wheelbase

johhny, or anyone else, if i want my jeep to get a simple 4" lift kit and beefier 35" tires plus bushwhacker fender flares, can you give me an estimate on parts and labor? not a big project, but something simple like this (BLUENAMER PLEASE): http://www-personal.umich.edu/~fagarcia/photos/modified_trucks/monsterjeep3.jpg

white347lx, thanks for posting and the info. by major body trimming, do you mean just cutting out the wheel wells so i can fit the tires? i was planning on doing this anyway to fit those bushwhacker fender flares.

Don't forget changing out all the bushings for castor corrected models, standard ones tend not to last long once you swap out to crancked radius arms

The project got binned when the SVA people said they'd have trouble declaring it as road legal (problems with the defender bodywork not meeting modern rules for a new build car), didn't make much difference really as I never could find the engine I wanted, never posted any pics because seeing a couple of DANA 60s and a few beadlock rims didn't really seem worth it. I am putting another defender project together though, based on an ex military 110 (though I might be giving in and going back to petrol), not having a hardcore offroader is killing me :(

FJ or Rubicon would be my choices.
