Welcome to the SV club! Love the old tube frame, thats the one thing I wish I could change on my bike. Check out svrider.com if you have any model specific questions. They can be a little preachy over there though. Got some gear with it?

I have a helmet and gloves right now. Im def. getting new gauntlet styled gloves and a nice leather jacket, I liked the joe rocket ones I tried on. Pants and boots will have to wait. I really want a new helmet, something that looks nicer, but I probably cant afford it right now. I cant wait to take this thing out though!

Dude, one word of advice: pants and boots cannot wait. If you have to do without beers or going to the club for a few weeks or if you can't ride the bike for a few more weeks, just to build up the cash then its a sacrifice worth making. A good helmet, pair of boots and at least a pair of draggin jeans are essential kit. Trust me, if you come off, you will thank me if you've listened to my advice. It may be the difference between a sprained ankle and a few friction burns or a smashed foot and some serious road rash.

well, for right now I have steel toe boots that go over the ankle. Not as good as a real motorcycle boot but it will have to do for now. We will see, the weather probably wont be good enough to take the bike out for 2 weeks or so anyways.

The can't afford thing doesn't fly. I know I talked about the SVrider guys being preachy but this is pure concern for a fellow rider so don't take it wrong. If you can't afford a jacket and pants how are you going to pay for a fractured elbow, knee, severe road rash, trip to the ER, etc....? Especially as a new rider you are very vulnerable to a crash or getoff. Please be safe and get yourself some gear. Buy used if you need to, but get some cow in between you and the road. You may not crash, but if you do you're gonna be sorry you didn't spring for some gear. Be safe out there.

I have a snell/dot helmet, gauntlet gloves, a 300 dollar joe rocket leather jacket. There is one shop around here with boots that I can try on, but they only have european companies. I dont want to have a shop order something that I cant put on first. I will buy some jeans with a bit of padding in them. The only thing that might take a awhile to get is a nice set of boots. I'm in the military though, so medical coverage isnt an issue if I get hurt.

"they only have european companies" Sidi and Alpinestars boots are some of the best you can get. Oxtar are pretty damned good too. I'd recommend these guys for jeans, they'd be pretty cheap too as the USD is stronger than the AUD http://www.dragginjeans.net/

Congrats on getting the bike. As a fellow SV rider, I can assure you that you got a great bike. Also, count me in among those saying to get the gear as quickly as possible.

Definetly get the boots it is worth it, I rode without boots for a while becasue "i was only going to work and back" and one day i layed it down and my peg went thru my shoe, thru my foot and shattered my middle toe right at the joint were it meets the foot, luckily i had good medical but for the cost of the emergency visit and all the doctor visits to make sure there was no infection from the open fracture plus i had 2 pins sticking out of my foot, i could have bought a real nice pair of boots with that money.

^Ow!!!!! One place I've seen online, seems to be pretty good: http://www.indysuperbike.com My advice, see what they have in the online shop, try it on somewhere else then buy it online, cheaper!
