Well right now I dont have a 3 or 5 wood in my bag, just a 3 iron and a driver. I have confidence in both clubs, I can hit my 3 iron about 220-230.

"I can hit my 3 iron about 220-230" you might do that 1 out of every 15-20 times. get a 5 wood and learn to hit a few different shots with it, it's easier than a 2.

" No, actually I can hit that fairly consistently but I do see what you are saying. I do want to round out my club selection and learn to hit a 3 and 5 wood.

From a technological standpoint, the average golfer is far better off having a hybrid in the bag. I mean, if you can nail the 2-iron, then more power to you but unless you have a tour player's ball-striking ability, hybrids will benefit you more in the long-run.

AC, give me about a week to check around and I'll give you some answers. Resort, Private, or Public?

Fuck my 3 wood only hits 230. My drives are only 260. Maybe if I put every ounce of my strength into a drive I hit 300, but thats if I dont break out that nasty hook that comes when I swing too hard. My 3 iron is good for 190 yards, 200 if i hit it in the sweet spot. I don't carry a 2 iron. I have a 5 wood and a hybrid i switch out depending on the turf. I really only use them for 200 yd par 3's, the occasional par 5 that calls for it, and drives where i need to control accuracy more than I need distance. A 2 iron is just something I cant see myself ever using until I really learn how to shape the ball or hit stingers.

But oh yeah the value of a 2 iron is the variable ball flights it can produce. High, low, draw, fade, whatever. Woods and hybrids are much harder to shape with consistency. Nothing worse than trying to hit that "fade" with a 5 wood that either turns into a slice into the woods, or goes straight.... into the drink.

1 iron and 3 wood are normally comparable in distance because of loft. Only the big hitters can hit fairway woods considerably longer than a 1 iron.
