Hey fellow OG'ers I usually wouldn't post something like this. Personally I don't really like the dog's owner that much (OK guy but he's my gf's ex, so I'm required to dislike him) but his dog is in a really shitty situation. Bascially, his 3 year old Great Dane will have to be put down if they can't raise around $10K for the necessary surgeries and rehab needed to keep her alive. He's in med school so his cash is already tight, and he has already paid for heartworm treatment and bloat surgery this year. So, if you can even donate a buck it would help. The Paypal donation site isn't up yet but here's some info about the situation: http://jnealy69.googlepages.com/home

Great Danes only live for about 7 years. and have many health problems.

Probably not worth the money. Sorry

Yuki is correct, Danes are awesome dogs but they're vulnerable to a shitload of disorders. I'll paypal him a few bucks if you ttt this once the paypal is set up. * Hugs dog *

Even though TexArcher and Yuki both sorta said the same thing, from the WAY they said it one of them is a real asshole and the other is very cool. And Yuki is NOT the cool one :( Can the owner put it on his credit card for now? Or work out an installment plan with the vet? Alot of vets are really willing to work things out so they can help the animal. And its great that your doing this for the dog even though you don't like the owner :) Dogs are so pure. Hope she makes it.

Dojosensei makes a hell of a point - did the dog get heartworms because it wasn't on heartworm medication? Because Hartgard and the other major brands will pay for heartworm treatments if your dog gets them.

Yep. My dog is like my daughter. My friends that don't own dogs think I'm a little fanatical about spoiling her, but they just don't get it. I spend $50 a month just on beef bones and treats and toys, shit!

Some vets will ALWAYS give an alternative to make a few bucks, because pet owners love their animals and will in some cases pay outragious fees for treatments that may prolong the animals life for a bit, while making the owner feel like there is hope.

But Danes are short lived dogs even when they live a healthy life.

Sorry for being honest

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but... I love dogs, I cried when I buried my dog, but really it's just a dog and 10k is a lot of money. There's little kids with brain tumors that could sure use a donation to help with their treatments. If you want to donate some money for a good cause, readjust your priorities and give to something a little more important than someone's pet.

Cuddlebug, I certainly won't flame you for it because you definitely have a point. But how far are we to take that line of thinking, you know? Because where it leads is places like "don't give money to kids suffering from MS because they aren't dying like the kids suffering from leukemia are", etc, etc. Any money donated to a good cause is a good deed, imo.

Your dog will love you just as much if not more then your kids will. Your dog will never turn on you or hurt you or be cruel to you. Your dog is pure love for you. If you betray that you are scum :(

I know where you're coming from, I give part of every paycheck to St. Jude through a company sponsored program - also sick kids aren't the only things worthy of charity

TexArcher, you're right, it's good that people want to give regardless of the cause. Harley, dogs should not be valued over people. Even if they do end up loving you more than your children.

I would be happy to donate a few bucks!  However, I strongly recommend EVERY pet owner to look into getting pet insurance.  http://www.petinsurance.com/   Especially owners of breeds that are prone to illnesses/disorders.

To everyone asking about the heartworm thing: Ok, the owner is a dumbass. Nice enough guy, but a dumbass and he probably didnt' keep up with the meds. He is also dead broke because he's in med school and is basically paying his own way. The dog has "wobbler's syndrome" which is apparently a narrowing of the cervical vertabrae that impinges on the spinal cord. There is no know cause and the only cure is surgery.

I'm sure that's in the works. And I agree. He is a fuck-up. If I could I would take the dog for my own and figure out a way to pay for it...but my condo only allows me one dog and I'm at the limit.
