Hi, Bolo! I've seen lately a guard passing technique that's very weird. Guy on top stays low, gets an underhook, tries to reach back to open the legs and then pass (most of the times to hg). I've seen it in Mundial 2006, Brasileiro 2006 etc. I've never seen it in any instructional. What's the deal with it? Does it have a name? What are the ups and downs of it?

I've played around with that pass in the past. I have had limited success with it mainly because passing with the underhook is one of my main passes, therefore, my students know how to defend against it well. It worked on my lower belts, but my higher belts who know how to defend against that kind of pass didn't have much problem stopping me from doing it.
