Tony Blauer's Annual Seminar in Upstate New York - October 6th. This year's topic is: Applications for Ground-n-Pound and Grounded Weapon Defense. Train with the developer of the S.P.E.A.R. System™, the only fully behaviorally inspired and genetically wired system of self-defense in the world. Those of you who have trained with him in the past will understand adjectives like, thought provoking, mind-blowing, brilliant, and out of the box. If you have yet to train in person with him this is your chance. We are limiting numbers so register A-SAP. For more information or to register - tom@pdrteam.com 315- 866-2589. Just returned from Coach Blauer's PDR session this past weekend which focused on tactics against the Ground-n-Pound. As always the session was very informative and added a great deal to one's toolbox for a groundfighting situation. Tony did a great job of breaking down the ground fight vs. grappling situation. Some tactics included: how to prevent a takedown, Murphy conversions for when the takedown defense may fail, defense against single-leg, tactics against the "hovering" position (nice!), and finally what to do when grounded (mount/guard, etc..). Taken as a whole, the session provided a comprehensive appraoch to dealing with a ground fight. Instead of grappling, the SPEAR system approach allows one to consider ALL phases of the ground fight, i.e. how use the SPEAR to prevent yourself from becoming grounded, if that fails then getting up (tactically) as quickly as possible, and if that fails using the SPEAR to defend and attack while on the ground. For good measure, Tony also discussed tactics vs. the knife on the ground (open hand outside 90 still applies!). Finally, a thank you to Tom and Dana for hosting the event. Looking forward to the next one... Paul Rossi
