"Scientists believe the tusk is primarily used for showmanship and for dominance -- males with larger tusks are more likely to successfully attract a mate. This hypothesis was suggested by the activity of 'tusking', in which two males rub their tusks together." Sounds like the average OG get together.

Portraits by Brad Utterstrom
awesome thread. Almost 10 years ago I wrote a poem about Aye-Aye's for a science class

'NIGHT AYES (98)

a pair of eyes glow in the night
a rare creature high amongst the trees
his long, bony fingers wield sharp claws
his bat-like ears notice all that goes unseen
his cries, like scraping metal
are warning us to stay away
but ancient tales claim he brings death
stories which some still beleive
so, fearing what we do not understand
we hunt and kill our harmless little friend
the bushy tailed bug-eater of the night
knocks on wood hoping to survive
hunted by fools, slaughtered by fear
the glowing eyes may soon disappear

If I ever see an alien creature from outer space, it most likely would not be any more weird than some of the animals we have here on earth.

"Hagfish enter both living and dead fish, feeding on the insides. They often enter through the openings of the mouth, gills or ***ANUS***." DOH!!! :(

"Crazy shit like burrowing into prey's brains to control them is way weirder than an otherwise normal monkey with a funny nose." Yeah. Isn't there a parasite that does that to snails? I saw a special where the parasite burrowed into a snail's brain. Zombified, it crawled up to the top of a branch to await being eaten by a bird. Just to make sure that the bird saw him, the parasite PULSED in the snails EYE STALKS!!! That was some freaky shit, right there!
