Mike, I was wondering if you can explain to me why so many people teach posture like in the Saulo vid yet when I learned posture it was like the Royler picture. If I do the Royler posture then my opponent cannot slide his knee up like Saulo shows. Yet I can still upa, and elbow/knee escape if I do the Royler posture. I don't get the deal with flaring the elbows up, and keeping the hand by the neck.

Every instructor has their own personal style and preference. However, I will tell you a universe truth. Any static position, if held long enough, can be defeated. With that being said, any form of posture must be mobile and adapt to your opponent's movement in order to be effective. As far escaping the mount, I would won't focus too much on what I call "scared little girl posture". Focus on actively escaping.
