This has happened with three different soldiers since being here in Iraq. I was rolling in my gi at the gym a while back and they would walk in and say "Oh you're doing jiu jitsu, I'm a BJJ black belt." I ask if they want to roll a while, but they never accept. They leave and I see them a few times after but they never want to roll. I know of only 2 BJJ black belts in the Army. Pedro & Alan. Are there anymore?

That happened to me in Tallil except the guy claimed he was a brown belt. I rolled with him had my fluid way with him. CPT Heymann had the same results. People just feel like they need to talk smack!

Most Army I run into will tell me they have been training for awhile and wnat there Blue Belt. Alot are close to that level but need to learn the GI. I have only met a few Purple Belts and a handful of Blue Belts. Everyone that claims higher I do not belive.

There was a capt. that was at Knox claiming to be a 2nd degree BJJ black belt but he never would come and roll with me during the lunch break. I am not in the Army but I taught some classes on base. There are lots of guys that comethrough and some are purple belts. It depends on where they gget stationed of course and if they get time to train of course

Where are those guys stationed at?

I will avoid this because of potential OPSEC.

As time goes on, I continue to see more and more Purples and other Brown belts coming into the Army. Here at Bragg, we see most of the Q course 18X's, and many have some BJJ or MMA type of training. Now that all Phase II students will be getting MAC Level I certified, I foresee a large amount of 18X's looking to continue training and looking do AMT MMA matches in the near future.

Chet Quint, who is now a black belt in China, was once upon a time a very, very skilled purple and army reservist. There is a brown belt somewhere in Hawaii, or was a few years back. He is an animal, but doesn't really do anything with MACP.

The question was about BJJ Black Belts in the Army. Chet Quint is not in the Army.

Like others I know of Alan, Tim, and Pedro. I know of a couple of Brown belts but those are the only BBs I know. I have had a few claim to be a BJJ BB and I publicly schooled one when he thought I only did MAC for training.

Adding one more to the list: Brain Davis got his Black Belt at Mundials this year. Congrats to the tough ugly bastard who got me into BJJ in the first place.

Asia, Tried to drop by and see Brian last week when I was TDY in AR, couldn't get by cause he was at the Mudials. I was glad to hear from him that he was awarded his Black belt! When you go to OCS? I am hoping to make it down for your graduation!

MAJLeavitt, My intial OCS class was canceled so I was pushed back, but only for a week. So I go in Dec now instead of Nov. I will keep you informed about graduation.
