OK so my girlfriend bottoms out my car. rips hole in the "oil pan" the oil runs out and she drives the car until the engine seizes. Pretty mad but insurance will cover it and put in another engine with supposedly approximately the same number of miles on it. However I don't trust them to actually give me an engine with low miles on it (to many crooks out there). How can I research the engine to actually find out if it has low milage? Thanx for any help.

The only way would be to take the VIN off the engine, take it to the DMV and get the registration details and then find the prious owner and ask to see the paperwork, which is too much work IMO, your best bet is to forget about researching the engine and just have an expert tear it down and verify it's condition.
