Hey I know where there is a breeding population in captivity. No Names in Glebe. They've been having races for years. They look a bit peeky though.

Get a snake. Reticulated Pythons are good. They are managable in size and can have good temperments. Do not be suckered into buying one that has been "captive bred". You want want that is "wild caught" and preferably over a year old.

It'll be easier to make your Retic come when you call if you play with some rats beforehand, they seem to enjoy the smell. A Nile Monitor is another that stays super small and quite friendly. Some people even just let them roam freely in their houses! If that fails you could always just become a shop teacher.

I'd be facing my inner most fears. My parents decided to teach me how to be afriad of snakes one day. Dad bought home some dead but not too bloody version of a brown snake and he wrapped it around a block of sandstone in our garden one day. Dog went crazy. I just walked over and stared at it, age three. It had gone pink, the same pink as the sandstone. Dad then took it to the back fence and hung it over the fence, jsut to remind me that they're dangerous... we figure that that must be an ability that they must carry on with beyond dead... then it went missing. Actually it might be the stories that my mother teels of chopping a big brown up on the garden path and only realising later that she'd broken the cement, when she was unable to peel the vegetables or seeing grass thumping that puts me off snakes somewhat. I don't bleieve I have ever touched one. Danger Will Robinson.

Perhaps I can glue the 40 or so skinks in my vege garden together. Probably one out there somewhere... I do have large spiders inside sometimes. There's only one at a time so they must be territorial. They don't seem quite big enough to be hunts men. A similar one with red fangs jumped at me, ran up my jeans and bit my shin last year, at the other end of town, and subsequently died :) The ones I have now have black fangs.

Get a small child. Seriously. Everyone owns a snake but how many people have a kid chained to a dog-house in their backyard?

I had a Ferret, cat, and Caiman(croc family) in college. The Caiman got almost 4' long and was eating much better than me so I had to get rid of it. I traded it for a Ball Python and free rats. It was as tame as can be, IF it was fed well. I would let him run around the apartment with a band on his mouth. Also, I would walk him on my ferret leash at our school's renown bikini park, and Pacino would pull more wool than any other pet I have ever seen out there. God I miss college. An older and bigger version of mine.
