Yes, you run the chance of a prospect panning out and becoming Hanley Ramirez.......but Hanley Ramirez is the exception, not the rule. The chances of either guy ending up as good as Santana is are slim. Prospects (even the most promising ones) are not a proven commodity. Boston's farm system is deep enough where giving up those two for a dominant starter like Santana is worth doing, IMO.

Art, Looks like you were right. Clay is off of the talk table right now for Santana. Dunno if that's due to Santana's crazy contract demands (which make me think this deal isn't happening, but maybe Harren is) or the amount of prospects they were demanding, but you were definately right.

Ugh! But instead trading Ellsbury? WTF? A guy proven he can produce in the bigs, in Boston, and in the post season... Don't like that much. I hope the Sox are just trying to push the Yanks higher. Still, a Beckett, Santana, Dice-K, Buccholz, Lester rotation going forward is something to cower from. How could they ever lose a playoff series?

No Wakefield in there either. I'm apparently talking about the future and not just next year.

Apparently you are right. I blame the Patriots making it so damn close that I had to stay up and get only 5 hours of sleep.

Hmmm. Looks like this may not happen at all now. I really have no problem holding onto Lester, Buchholtz, Ellsbury, and Masterson... I just would prefer to get Santana than have the Yankees get him. If it goes to FA, the Yankees likely get him. As long as some other team not named the Tigers gets this trade done, then I'm fine with it.

Yeah. That'd be just silly. Luckily I hope they'll stick to the old addage of never trading in your division. If the Sox don't get him, I'm pulling for the Mets.
