This is actually in the league I play in (if fact, my team is playing the team that shot the puck tonight).  Who would've thought that going down to block a shot would mean the end of your life.  RIP

Very shitty, RIP. I think it's key to note: "They are still trying to determine the exact cause of death," Cappiello said. "It could be a number of things." I wouldn't be shocked if it turns out there was an existing condition present.

RIP...terrible for all involved. Makes me think about wearing shoulder pads with some chest protection in the roller league I play in. Fortunately as a mid-level adult beer league I doubt few can shoot the puck that hard and the puck is lighter than ice.

Well last night I played the team that shot the puck and every single person on that team had a cannon of shot (and they didn't seem gun shy at all). Also, apparently the kid that was killed by the shot was revived on the ice and died after he made it to the hospital. Some witnesses said there was blood and vomit on the ice from the kid. It sucks.

Blocking shots in hockey is one of the most dangerous things to do in any sport, imo. The types of speed and velocity guys can get on their shots nowadays is freakish. What's even more scary, is that if you think about it, you're blocking the puck at its highest possible peak of speed...from about 7-10 feet away.

I don't knkow why someone would be blocking shots like that in rec hockey anyhow. Well it still sucks though. Very dangerous.
