St. Louis, Chicago, Columbus, Philly, Boston, Phoenix or the Isles? I gotta go with Phoenix, everyone had them dead last. While Chicago has surprised the heck out of me with their shorthanded play and no havlat, Coyotes were getting bashed left, right and centre. Heck, they didn't even have a potential 30-goal scorer on the team. Coyotes are right in the hunt after Gretzky was written off. The season is young, but their 7-3 road record is ridiculous.

To me the Hawks are the biggest surprise. I know they had tons of yo0ung talent, but the extent that the young kids are contributing at the NHL level minus Havlat as you said is amazing.

Hawks for sure. They still may burn out from the grind but that's a great team in the making.

Red Wings. I knew they would be good, but not this dominating. Mark

Montreal...i'm not that surprised but every journalist in every magazine or website saw them out of the playoffs and they are only 6 points behind Ottawa with one game in hand.

I'm not too surprised by Montreal though....I thought they had the talent to make it last year but for whatever reason choked. It's been fun to watch the eastern Conference, no teams have any breathing room in their respective divisions now.
