Would you consider the Army combatives system to one of the most effective for fighting larger opponents? I would imagine that soldiers have to train to engage the enemy without regards to size.

Difficult question to answer. The techniques definitely allow you to use leverage to counteract a larger opponents power. However, if said opponent is stronger and equally technical, you're fucked. I still think in many ways that this is one huge misunderstanding people have about combat arts in general: Once I get technical I can kick a guys ass no matter what. Wrong answer. However, to answer your original question, I think it is an effective way to deal with larger opponents.
