My understanding is that the breed is divided into "Scott" and "Johnson" types. What's the difference, other than size? Should a buyer actively seek one over the other, or is the difference minimal compared to finding a quality breeder?

Apparently natureground is not the most highly trafficked group, as my post is still at the top 16 hours later.

It depends on what you want. It's like asking chocolate or vanilla: which tastes better to me?

Hence the question: "What's the difference, other than size?"--But nevermind, I'll talk to some breeders, just thought I might get an opinion or two about the breed off of here.

Sorry I'm not going to write a 2 page post about general characteristics of standard, performance, and hybrid bulldogs. I figured if you actually said what you were looking for, I could answer specific questions. :/

My bad, I didn't realize that the question was impossible to answer in under 2 pages.

Buy a scott or a hybrid which a cross between the two lines. They are more atheletic and have way less health problems. I have a hybrid female and she is a really drivey dog.

i own a scott bulldog, which also has some leclerc lines in there, looks like a very large pitbull and often gets "wow thats a big pit!... very athletic and has a great drive, Johnsons are much heavier built with a more bulldog look .. little known fact is that up until the late 80's they were called American pit bulldogs... as opposed to american pit bull terriers.. hence the name change to stop confusion... some Am Bulls.. like the leclerc and painter lines were game bred for fighting.. and i hear some am bulls are still used for fighting.. but i think its not a common occurence.
