This looks at points scored as a factor of minutes played.  of course this doesnt represent who the best players are - just who happen to score the most points relative to their playing time.

Point Efficiency Top 10
1) Spezza
2) Lecavalier
3) Crosby
4) Iginla
5) Zetterberg
6) Kovalchuk
7) Alfredsson
8) Gaborik
9) Stastny
10) Huselius

Goals ONLY
1) Kovalchuk
2) Boyes
3) Gaborik
4) Iginla
5) Zetterberg
6) Holmstrom
7) Ovechkin
8) Lecavalier
9) Sharp
10) Stillman

Discuss? This IMO is moving along the right track to analysing players. Now if you account for PP time, even strength time, and SH time... and also discount for goals against... you are going to have an excellent means of comparing players.

Was this before or after Gaborik potted 5 goals in one game? hehe Honestly, you look at some namee there and some of them aren't even realized. Patrick Sharp, having an awesome yea,r but doubt he gets much ice-time. Also Holmstrom flies under the radar a lot, cause he's the 3rd best forward on the team after Datsyuk and zetterberg, but the guy works hard for his garbage goals. I still think Vinny is the best forward in the league as poorly as Tampa Bay is playing, the guy is just a beast. Zetterberg isn't far off from 2nd. I'd like to see a list like that for defensemen though, Zubov is putting together and awesome year.

agreed - i mean look at Huselius, who woulda thunk it...basically hes at a point a game while averaging 17mins of ice time. impressive. for gaborik it was after the 5 goal night. but he was on the Goals Only list as i calc'd it earlier in the week too. i think that he was #12 on the points one.. sharp is averaging just over 18mins a game.

Well if Huselius is averaging 17 mintues of ice-time a game, one of my favs, Matt Cullen, should be cracking the top 10 in "efficiency points" very soon. He's almost a point a game player on the 3rd line.

Thanks for the new rankings PTA...and I think the NHL web site should actually have rankings like this too. Cause honestly Svatos is having an awesome year, and Vrbata has been as valuable to the coyotes as Bryzgalov has, and look who's in the top ten for goal efficiency...both of them. Also looking at how Ribeiro is playing for Dalla sthis season, aside form the points, i've watched a lot of Stars games, this guy is a wizard with the puck. I gotta question what really happened in montreal and what was the riff there, cause the Stars style when he got there is much less suited for him than the Habs style. Anyways, montreal got ripped on that trade.
