Didn't realize how great Zetteberg was until I watched the Stanley cup finals.

Great on the offensive end and even greater on the defensive end; The best part is he the cheapest superstar you can find at 2.6Mil/year. Compare that to Jason Blake's 5Mil/year, danm you Detroit.

Detroit's salaries are around $40mil for 2008-09.  The projected cap number should be around $54mil, IIRC.  They have to sign a couple RFA and UFA, most notable, Fillpula.

They should have around $10mil to toss around in the free agent market.  Oh man...

Fucking insane use of cap space, the Leafs on the other hand will probably sign Sundin for 7-8mil this season to lead us to 9th place.

Word on the street around town is that the Wings may make a serious offer for Hossa.

How the fuck can the Wings afford Hossa? Oh thats right, you guys get goalies to pay for u for free. While everyone else has to spend $5-8 million for a good goalie.

Oh, Zetterberg for 2.9 is pretty fking good. Get ready for that to go up to $10 mil next year.

Most of the Wings players take less than what they could get on the open market.  That helps.  They all want to play in Detroit.

"Get ready for that to go up to $10 mil next year."

No way.  He can't earn more than Sid the (overrated) Kid, the greatest player to ever step foot on the ice.

Holland is and will be for a long time, the greatest GM in the game atm.

The economy is in the crapper and the city has a terrible rep, yet Illitch & he built a top notch organization that wins consistently and players will play for less just to work in that environment.

I hear there may be some *coughGilliscough* offers coming soon for Fillpula ;)

Man, I sure sound like Nostradamus on this thread.  lol

Too bad Hossa will only be a rental.  Holland needs to sign Zetterberg next year at around $8-9 mil a year.

Could end up losing a few bodies next season with the contracts that will be up but in typical Detroit fashion will pull players from nowhere that will fill in anyways.

Sidney Crosby is gonna sell tickets in Detroit?

He hasn't helped much, as it seems.  He better hurry up and start "saving" the Wings soon.

I hate to rag on the older guys but it's just any day now that Lidstrom and Brodeur's performance just drops like a rock. Brodeur showed cracks in the armour at the beginning of last season... I think this year we are going to see a significant drop in performance.

When Lidstrom crack, he'll be happily accomplished and will go down as the best European trained defenseman ever, and might even be one of the top 5 D-men to ever play the game. People have been waiting for him to slow down, still has yet to happen, no one is more consistent than Lidstrom. he's a winer, and him being captain keeps Detroit as a winner even with their older guys either gone or retired.

As for brodeur....the guy is also a winner. The Devils defense keeps getting weaker and he doesn't slow down. 4 Vezina's over the past 5 years. He plays 70+ games a year, and his save% is still awesome regardless. How can Brodeur not be a top 5 player with all he's accomplished and still going strong up until the end up this past season?
