So Barry Ferguson reached a Scottish record of 77 European appearances last night against Werder Bremen(which Rangers won 2-0, but could easily have been 3 or 4 the German goalie was that bad). This in itself is not too surprising, Rangers are guaranteed European football every season and in most seasons will play double digit euro games because of the Champions League. What is surprising however is that the former record of 76 appearances was held by David Narey who played his entire career for Dundee United from 73-94. Yes back in the days when the European cups were simply knockout tournaments and teams weren't guaranteed numerous matches from league formats and easy qualifying ties, Dundee f'in united managed to scale the upper echelons of European cup competition to such a high degree that David f'in Narey managed to cap a whopping 76 european appearances. In 1984, Dundee United made the semi finals of the European cup and even reached the Uefa cup final in 1987. WTF?! Dundee is the single most depressing, god awful place in Scotland. I can think of few things less redeeming that confessing to someone that you hail from Dundee. WTF are one of their shitty teams doing scaling such heights of football competition? I find this hard to believe.
