I'm looking for a long term career, and I've been doing loans for the last 2 years, business is pretty solid, but if I could possibly make more long term, and my family could assist with tuition, what would make more sense. Trying to get my MBA? Or trying to get an accounting degree and then look towards getting my CPA. I'm 33 yrs old, so I'm thinking the accounting path is a no go. Is an MBA even worth trying for? I think I could make similar money in the field I'm without it, and even if I went into a different field, would it really help me out that much? I've been out of school long enough that I know I cannot get in a top school. And advice would be helpful. ** Sorry if this is rambling, I just ran the sand dunes and I am spent.

"I've been out of school long enough that I know I cannot get in a top school." Experience is required to get into the top schools. Mark

The reason I probably can't get into a top school is, my GPA was avg at best about 2.75, and I haven't studied in so long, my test scores probably wouldn't be that great. Several friends had told me that trying for a CPA would be better long term as an MBA is pretty useless.

I don't know, but Accounting sucks. That might be a good path to go if you hate yourself.

Go back to school but don't quit working. You will get a better idea of the opportunities by talking to your fellow students.

Lots of people who are established professionals have said that an MBA isn't worth the time and $$$$ when you look at what your pay will increase to. Anyone offer any personal experiences to the contrary? Like say you were making about 60K... after the MBA you started making 90K? Discuss.

MBA should be easy enought to obtain while working, you don't need a top school to improve your education and better your career.
