I get very sick of the usual,Sweet potatoes,Brown rice,and oatmeal souces of complex carbohydrates and am looking for alternative foods to use instead. Is barley an effective,slow burning complex carbohydrate?

barley is about 78% carbohydrate per weight. it has a low glycemic index like whole grain bread-if that's what you mean by complex carbohydrate.
try quinoa or amaranth. they even have a good amount of protein. you can use them in salad, plain as a side dish, stuffing for peppers. they have a real subtle nutty taste to them.
