http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=31&article_id=6594 For a Vette/muscle car fan like me this is hard news to take. FIVE seconds on a track like that is huge. The only good news is the Z06 stayed about even with 911 Turbo for about 60 grand less LMFAO. I am afraid I have to agree with Road and Track that a new king of the best bang for the buck hill has been crowned. and Fuck I am worried that the ZR1 even if it costs 30 grand more then the GTR might not be able to make up for FIVE seconds on a track like that. Jeeze. Oh well at least I can laugh at the German car snobs for getting owned by both a muscle car and a ricer for half the price LMAO.

No need for Nissan to talk them in to anything, this is Road and Track. The Corvette could run circles around anything, and they wouldn't give it a fair review. That 117mph trap speed from the GTR seems reasonable given the weight and power. Better than the 120+ claims I've heard before. Not much room to improve that ET, compared to the Vette. It's nice to finally see someone run past 100mph in the GTR - I'm surprised at how far it falls off from the both the Vette and 911 past 100mph. Must be shitty gearing? I've heard the cd is .28, so I don't think it's aerodynamics... The GTR is going to get crushed on highways all over the US.

So what were the times at buttonwillow configuration 13? I would like to compare them to the laps run in Improved Touring BMW 325IS cars.

911: 2:02.1 Vette: 2:02.2 GTR: 1:56.9 I'd be curious to see what other cars run on that track as well.

"It's nice to finally see someone run past 100mph in the GTR - I'm surprised at how far it falls off from the both the Vette and 911 past 100mph. Must be shitty gearing?" Weight. The Corvette is 600 lbs lighter and has 25 more HP. Once the GTR's initial advantage of traction off the line due to the four wheel drive is lost, the corvette catches up. But jesus, the GTR is the slowest one of those cars in a straight line and yet it beats them by more than five seconds in a single lap. That says something about the GTR's handling. It may be crushed on highways by the Corvette, but on more twisty roads its bye bye to the Z06.

It's less than 1/10th of a second slower to the 1/4....not that big a diff imo.

Yeah, its plenty fast enough for me. And its 4WD so it'll be useable on winter roads as well, which is a big deal here in Norway. Not that I'll ever afford one...

the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are good enough for me...seriously, i don't care above that because 99% of the time I'm racing it would be those 2 numbers that stand out. The thing outhandles both cars too, around the track and around pilons which is saying a lot about the car since it's so much heavier than the vette. AND you have a back seat for the kids. Trust me...I love the 2007 z06 and it's the car I'm buying in around 5 years when I can afford one but this new GTR is the better car all around imo. driveable in the rain and snow, equal performance, easier to get in and out, 4 seats etc etc. The car has actually surprised me somewhat as I didn't think the z would have a legit competitor in the GTR.

Corvette ZR-1 'Ring times in low 7:40s, GT-R V-Spec amused

Leading up to the official reveal of the Corvette ZR-1, a rare week went by when we didn't see spy shots of the General's new super coupe eating up the Nurburgring. But still images don't tell the whole tale, so InsideLine sent its spies to the North Loop with a video camera to capture an uncloaked ZR-1 making the rounds on the 'Ring. According to the men behind the lens, they were able to clock the 620 hp, supercharged 'Vette running laps "in the low 7:40s," easily within reach of supercars costing substantially more than the ZR-1's estimated $100k price tag. But what about the elephant on the 'Ring in the room? The Nissan GT-R V-Spec.

As reported earlier this week, spies caught the GT-R V-Spec lapping the Nordschleife, and with stopwatches at the ready, they were able to time Godzilla's lightweight (by an estimated 330 pounds), more powerful (70 hp or so) sibling at an unbelievable 7:25 per lap. According to the crew that crudely timed the ZR-1, the track was damp, so that 7:40 time could easily be improved by at least four or five seconds. But that's still a long way off.

Obviously, both lap times should be taken with a grain of salt considering the less-than-accurate way in which they were captured, but that won't stop the smack-talk. Keep it civil folks.

Sounds like Nissan talked them into using a specific course to allow the GTR some bragging rights.

LMFAO cmon bro I know you are a big Vette fan like me and think like how I used to think about living my life a 1/4 mile at a time but you sound like a nutjob thinking it is a conspiracy. I remember every one saying how the Z06 was a lot faster because it would be at least as powerful and weight a lot less. If that is the case how come it cant beat the Ricer on the track?

I am worried that GM wont give AWD or at least a mid engine car. They need to do something to compete with the GTR. This is getting embarassing!
