I'm sorry but gambling isn't "putting it on the line" Gambling isn't some glorious guts n glory risk Gambling is just plain stupid unless you're a professional OR you have money you can afford to lose. This was just rationalizing away a huge mistake and moment of weakness. He wanted the easy way out (just get lucky and you can pay off all your debts!) but as always the "easy" way turns out to be the worst way. I have nothing but the greatest respect for the man as a fighter and I'm absolutely positive he's a great guy - but this can only be considered nothing more than a horrible mistake. Not a horrible mistake that was made during some glorious risk taking "let's take on the world" where through will and determination the obstacles could possibly be overcome. No this was just a plain old horrible mistake.

As someone flying to Vegas in 2 hours, I see no problem with what Tanner did. If he doesn't regret it, then more power to him. Yeah, it's -EV, but so is most everything else (fun) in life.

He's depressed but doesn't feel any regret or guilt for gambling. Those two usually go hand in hand, I wish he had enough money to get some psychiatric help.

Playing blackjack in a casino isn't about guts or glory; it's just a tax on people who can't do math.

If borrowing money from friends to gamble is being an entrepeneur, it seems pretty easy.

I am a huge a EVAN TANNER fan. Foregoing sponsorship cause he wants to be different and not sellout is somewhat noble, but in the face of his financial difficulties he really isnt in a position to take a stand like this at this time. It worries me, as this is bordering on chronic self-destructive behaviour. He is still young enough to turn it around and build his financial independent future.

YOU try putting everything you have into training/fighting only to come up short. Think about it. This is true, but he has an alcohol and gambling problem. That's what's bringing him down. and a sunken boat.

I don't see the nobleness in telling everyone your problems. Just shows a lack of self control. He'll probably be unprepared for his next fight [although he may not have to cut weight], and get cut by the ufc for back to back loses.

This just proves that no matter how big a loser you are you can still make it to the UFC. Very inspiring.....

["Great accomplishment only comes with great risk...."] Bullshit. It also comes with hard, (sometimes boring), focused work. ["...Those who risk nothing, those who live their lives in fear, will never have that chance...."] Yeah, and those who behave foolishly will be doomed to lead a foolish life, like folks who think staying up on benders gambling will solve all their financial problems. ["...Failure is not a sin. It's being too afraid to even try, that is a sin..."] Well, IMO, Evans too afraid to live responsibly wiht a little common sense. But as long as he's not dragging other people into his problem spiral, then have fun going down the drain buddy

"LOL @ the people passing judgement from behind a computer screen without having the balls to talk about their own personal demons and failures. Atleast this guy is open enough to talk about his." Look I like Tanner as much as anybody else. But to say it is alright for the guy to make huge mistake after huge mistake, blow all his hard earned money away, drink like a fish, and just always seeming to fuck up justifiable because he is open about it while everyone is getting annoyed with his chosen path are the guys to laugh at because they don't chose to fuck up is flat out ridiculous and stupid.

"kicking a guy when he's down is the lowest form of douchebaggery imo. ...shows a complete lack of character." Bullshit. Evan has been given more opportunities and talent to suceed in life than 99% of people in the world and he chooses to waste it all. It's sad, weak and pathetic and to mask it as some zen like journey just makes it a lie on top of everything else.
