Thanks Kyokushin, I know next to nothing about guns, and less about law enforcement, but I wasn't sure if there was a standard and if so how wide it was (e.g. department? county? state? etc.). THanks for the response

For my off-duty weapon I carry a springfield XD full size .45. I love it, 13 + 1 of full size .45 ACP. If you dont know anything about fireamrs that is a lot of big bullets for a maximum capacity. My drop/ankle gun is a little .380 cobra and I have a M4 for home defense.

We carry the SIG P229R DAK at work. It's a really nice weapon. Off-duty I carry an H&K USP 40.

I am not in Law Enforcement but just picked up a Springfield XD40 myself. Seams very nice and came highly recommended. Not overly expensive especially after you figure in the cost of the extra items it comes with.

I carry a stainless Springfield 1911 loaded Champion model, and a DPMS AR-15 M4 in the trunk. Before I got the AR I had a Remington 870 with ghost ring, side saddle, and extended tube. Back-up and off duty is either a S&W mod 60 .38, Ruger .380, or a Glock 23.

I am in a city of 20,000 pop., with 41 officers.

glock 22 as a sidearm. my department allows a few other calibers to be carried as a back up but the most common is a .38 revolver but it must be carried with +P hollow point ammo. on the street officers have a remington 870 in the trunk and if they have qualified with them, they get to carry an AR-15.
