what ever happened to that guy (the one who can stand at the end of the fight)?

He was a YOUNG gracie fighter and was tearing up the scene in the UK for a while.

Ross Pettifer may have been his name/

When I trained MT our coaches insisted on shin pads for any amateur fights. Always wore them. They said it was stupid to fight without shin guards until you'd had several years of hard training. They made this clear when arranging fights.

At a fight in Richmond VA at the last minute opponent sends word he's not going to wear shin guards. Guy from our gym said fuck it and he wanted to fight him anyways. Coaches suggested he pull out but Gary was a pretty experienced guy.

First round guy throws a leg kick and Gary checks the kick....SNAP...dude's leg does just like that in the video. I was 6 rows back in the stands and the unmistakeable sound of a steak wrapped around a wooden dowel rod and cracked against something hard enough to break the wood rolled over the crowd. Guy didn't even know he'd done it and went to punch but collapsed as he put weight down.

Gassaway looked in distress. Better reaction than of the one who was taunting the guy.

no amount of "shin conditioning" is going to prevent injuries like that.

Pele stepped way to the inside of Brians lead leg so when the kick delivered it was dead straight on the shin/lower knee. Thats usually the way it happed. Had he been about three inches to the right I doubt it would have happend because the kick would have been coming from a side angle than straight on.

Pele now has a metal plate in his leg - so he will be able to kick as hard as he wants.. I pity the next guy he fights.

if you're gonna kick wih wreckless abandonment you had best be kicking the heavy bag about 2,000 times a day each leg and that may be an under estimation no joke.  those thai fighters seriously throw a shit ton of kicks on the thai bags conditioning their legs.  that would never happen to buakaw or me, lol jk bout me/

Yup, that's EXACTLY how metal plates used to treat serious bone breaks work. I was initially unsure if that was the case, but seeing Lex destroy people with that steel forearm taught me all I need to know.

Remember that Frank Mir vs. Pe De Pano fight, when Mir came back from the injury with a metal plate in his femur? He threw a jumping knee at Pe De Pano and knocked him out, IIRC. I'm not saying there was no technique involved or that the steel did ALL the work, but PDP's "oh shit!" expression before Mir's steel leg hit him in the face and ended his career was CLASSIC!

Honestly, I wonder why we don't see more fighters breaking limbs on purpose to get an unfair STEEL advantage? Other than OMA, of course.

Brian is a great guy. I would bet he is feeling empathy for Pele.
