yeah, that's why you're a 20 handicap, motherfucker.  try hitting it consistently 185 and you'll shave 15 strokes off your score.

some people will never have the mental abilities to play good golf.  no one gives a fuck if you can hit your irons that far when you miss the green 10 out of 10 times.

 LOL @ that.

My favorite answer to the question, "How far do you hit your 6 iron?" = "about 5 feet from the pin"

LOL @ caring about how far you hit each iron.

"I can hit my 6 iron 205" = "When I'm 205 yards from the pin I hit my 6-iron and end up 20 yards short of the front fringe."

The only thing that matters is how far you CARRY each iron.

I've hit a 250 5 iron before.  Too bad it was downhill, downwind and it took a 30 yard bouce forward off a sprinkler head.

I totally agree. I'm one of those guys who can smash my irons ridiculously far, but I absolutely SUCK at golf. Basically, the rare time that I connect perfectly it goes like stink.

This year, I am going to be making a HUGE effort to slow my swing down and get my irons to go the distance they are designed for.

Sure, the one time out of every 10 when my 7 iron goes sky high and 195yrds looks impressive, but it doesn't quite offset the 9 out of 10 times that it slices into the woods or skips along the fairway for 110 yards.

Truthfully, with irons, the most important thing is hitting it the SAME distance each time.

Hitting the same distance is uber-important and is what pissed me off yesterday. I had a decent lie about half-buried in the first cut, just off the fairway, about 130-40yds out. I took out a nine, which I usually hit about 140 yards off the short stuff. For some reason I blasted it 165 yards. I even checked to make sure I hadn't grabbed a 6 by mistake.

But christ.
