Brian Campbell 8 year deal and Huet as well.

The best D core in the league bar none and very young and deep!

Good moves by Chicago, but I don't think Campbell is worth $57M.

LOL @ the d-bag GMs starting to overpay again.  What the hell was the lockout about?

I heard that the 'nucks offered Sundin $20 for 2 years.  Are you kidding me?

"The best D core in the league bar none and very young and deep!"

Incorrect.  That title would belong to the mighty Detroit Red Wings.  Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart in the top 4.  Then, waiting in the wings, Meetch, Ericsson, and the other youngsters in the non-stop talent producing machine.

Stuart lol! Hawks D is way deeper and younger are u joking?

Campbell, Keith, Seabrook, Barker, Sopel, Wisniewski, Byfuglien who can play D ad forward.

No wonder its Mark fanning his Wings nuts again. Mark the Blackhawks have the best and deepest young talent in the league along with the Habs.

"Campbell, Keith, Seabrook, Barker, Sopel, Wisniewski, Byfuglien"

Who are these guys again?

All of them combined don't equal Nick Lidstrom.

 lol.  That was a joke.

However, Wings' top 4 scored a total of 173 points last year.  The Blackhawks' top 4 scored 110 point.

Wings lead the league in GA, Blackhawks were #20.

Add Campbell now buddy our D is deeper Buff was playing forward most of the time scoring almost 20 goals. Seabrook is not an offensive d-man.

Lidstrom is the shit but your other defense sucks Rafalski lol maybe one day hell play defense.

Our D is young 20s not ready to retire like Lidstrom and even Ralfalski is old. Good luck in a few years.

Lot of money, but there is always going to be a premium for mobile D-men who can carry the puck.

Campbell is way overrated. Good offensive D man but he sure went invisible come playoff time. Chicago was doing awesome developing young talent, I think this will actually hurt them within a couple years when they can't afford to re-sign some of the kids as they reach their prime. Campbell will help, but not worth the money they're shelling out for such a long time, considering the guy is almost 30 now and hasn't put up star quality stats in his career.

The problems isn't entirely the money being thrown around it's the length of the contracts. There are going to be a lot of teams in a couple years crying the blues because they have a bunch of now mediocre older guys with years and years left on deals.

Also Edmonton & Pittsburgh (natch) certainly have a buttload of young talent too on the point of teams with the most quality young players.

Spanky, thats why they use the buyout option... these long term front-loaded contracts are nothing but a kind of "loophole" around the cap system.

The old players in the end of their contracts will have value to the poor teams trying to make the cap floor... at the end of their big contracts a lot of these guys will have huge cap hits, but be making a much smaller amount.

Thus the poor teams can make the cap floor without paying near that amount in salary.

After 35 the team is on the hook for the salary for the duration too though if a guy decides to retire, crazy to sign a guy through 38 years old.

Plus the buyout option still ends up causing a cap hit and with such long terms will see teams on the hook for many years (see the laffs & Tucker as an example)

You'd need to be wishing for an awful lot of teams looking to just hit the floor with the amount of long term deals being given out, their certainly aren't a lot of them now.

Anyone that says the Hawks do not have the best or one of the best young talent in the league needs to pass the crack rock.

Understand that if you replace Sopel with Campbell, you still only have 135 points from your Top 4 d-men.

The mighty Winged Wheel's top 4 are still better.

And isn't Campbell 30 years old?  That's not old, but he ain't no spring chicken either.
