Less than a month after being bounced from the Stanley Cup Final, Marian Hossa has decided to join the Detroit Red Wings. Sources tell TSN that free agent Hossa has signed a one-year, $7.4 million deal with the Red Wings.

Lifetime rent-a-player?

1year deals for the rest of his career?

Hmm, guess we can scratch the possibility of Sundin ending up in Detroit then, unless he agrees to a substantial pay cut.

If he wants to win a Stanley cup, I think he should play for Detroit no matter how little the pay is, kind of like Kariya accepting $1M just so he can play in Colorado with his friend Selanne.

Man, how good would Detroit be with both Hossa AND Sundin added to an already great team??

Oh, by the looks of it, Hossa does appear to be heading down that road of rental player for life.

 Ouch...

Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hossa on a line together with Liddy and Rafalski at the blue line?

I think I can hear Spankenstyne softly weeping in his pillow right now.

Give it time. You guys will be trading his ass sooner or later.

For reference see Federov.

I sure as hell hope so!

The Wings won't overpay for him or tie up money they need to sign Conn Smythe winner Zetterberg, Franzen or other RFAs next year.  If he doesn't fit into the Wings plans, bye bye!

I trust Holland knows what he is doing...

And not signing Fedorov wasn't the best option for the Wings?  I think so.

I cant deny the Wings management and coaching staff are #1 in the NHL, whereas I have to watch my team offer Sundin $10 million per. :(

They just need to find a soft fluffy euro goalie to complete the set :)
