Can someone explain to me how the Yankees can afford all these expensive salaries and still make a profit?

I think their payroll is staying pretty even. Add in inflation and increased ticket sales with the new stadium, and it would seem pretty easy. Advertising to the largest media market helps too.

Yeah, as long as the Yankees don't spend much more, their team payroll will actually decrease this year.

The Yankees are actually doing the right things, and people hate them for it. With a media market that size, the increased income gives them huge leverage in the free agent market. Further, if adding Teixeira, Sabathia, and Burnett gets them to the playoffs, that immediately increases team revenue to the point where their salaries will probably pay for themselves.
