Do you think academia is ready for the concept of "diversity"...?

Which is to say, do you think those in higher education could/would be open to the idea of a celebrating cultural differences?

I'm not sure they are, but I would like your opinion.

Why are people SO afraid of the topic of diversity higher education???

LOL - I've been in or around academic circles as an instructor for ~10 years now - and I find that diversity comes to a rapid halt when politics are involved. Most academicians I know equate "conservative" and/or "Republican" with KKK, Nazis, cannibal serial killers, etc.  ;-)
