I'm interested in Chinese (already speak it pretty well, read and write even better).

Is there any way to get training in a specific language guaranteed?

What's working as a 35P like on a daily basis?

How about the other enlisted intelligence specialties like 35N, 35F?

If anyone speaks Chinese, how does the HSK correlate to the Defense Language Proficiency Test?

Go to a recruiter, from what I understand you probably want to be a crypto linguist or humint guy. Don't sign unless it is what is in your contract regardless of your DLPT scores. If you don't DLPT high enough for Chinese hold out, get a waiver, whatever. Get the 20,000 bonus (they used to offer it for that critical MOS anyway). Maybe hold out for choice of duty station too.

If you're already fluent, take the DLPT. If you score 3's you'll get that language guaranteed pretty easily. if you score 2's you might not get the language you asked for.

HOWEVER, i've seen the Army pull the switcheroo even on native speakers. kid in my Pashto class was fluent in Korean and Spanish. thought he was going to be a Korean linguist. now's he's a fobbit in A-stan.

I can't speak for Army MOS', but AF lings have a pretty good quality of life.
