I notice that the England fans sing this during rugby matches.  Is it a celebratory song they break out when they think they are going to win, a motivational song to rally their players, or just a drunken lot singing the only song they can remember the words to?

It seems a strange choice of a song for an English rugby side, doesn't seem to have much to do with rugby or England.

Hey seg,

As North American's I don't think we will ever understand the European sport culture. The chants, songs, are beyond me.

Rugby songs are crazy as well.

A couple of years back a couple of English lads started singing Swing low in a pub with over 200 Irishmen in it here in Paris, they didn't stay long after the Paddies replied with this song.
