For those of you looking to buy a DSLR, Best Buy currently has the Nikon D200 camera on sale for $599. This is a pro-sumer level camera. It is very similar to the camera I shoot; mine is the newer model. This camera was selling last year for about $1600 bucks. Even now it's hard to find this camera for this price used.

Keep in mind, it's the body only so if you don't have Nikon lenses, you will need to buy that separately.

Yeah Crooky... that's a fine camera. If I were shooting Canon, that's the body I'd buy. But it's a lot more money than the D200 and too much camera for most people.

I am waiting to upgrade to the D700. I want to see if Nikon releases a D700x, like they're doing with the D3x. BTW, when I got my D300, my wife gave me the green light to buy the D3 instead, which runs $5k. I decided against it only because it's just too much money and camera for what I do. It would be different if I were getting paid to shoot.

You should be getting paid to shoot.  Your work is amazing.

I'm still with My Canon 450D, but I have 5 incredible pieces of glass for it now, which really jumps up the quality of pics I've been taking.

Glass is much more important than body. Did you get DX lenses or full frame?

DX is typically Nikkor/Nikon lenses.  Canon uses EF/EF-S lenses.  Lemme show ya what I got:

Are those pro glass? Don't know too much about Canon.

When I say DX, I mean for crop sensor bodies. You Canon is a 1.6x crop sensor. The 5D Mark II is a full frame, as is the D700 and D3 from Nikon.

Mine are quality glass, but when you say "pro glass" you are talking about the L Series, which is wicked expensive, and I want a better camera body before I jump into L Series lenses.

Yeah... all my lenses currently are crop lenses. My next lens, 70-200mm f/2.8 VR will be full frame pro-glass, which runs new for $1900.

I then plan on replacing my wide angle and normal zoom lenses with the ED full frame pro lenses. They run about $1800 each so it will be a while. I just want to prepare for when I upgrade down the line to full frame.

My lenses run from about $250 (the bottom one which came with the body) to $700 (The 70-300mm IS).  The L Series lenses start at about $1600 and top out at anywhere from 10-120k.  Check this:

Yeah... same with Nikon. Some of the long prime lenses are several thousands of dollars.

Do any of you guys have a decent SLR for sale? I've tried and tried to save up for a new one, but I just can't get ahead.

I do, it's not digital though it's film. Leica R5 with a Summicron 50mm lens.

Nope... not anymore. I gave it to my wife's sister as a gift.
