Had the money and knew I'd spend it on something stupid, so bought this instead.

Words can not describe...

Stupid filter cost me $159.99 <shakes head>

I actually wasn't going to get it, but I was stupid enough to ask the sales rep just to try it out... WOW bought it on the spot.

Unfortunattly for me, I also asked to see the 70-200mm 2.8 just for the hell of it.... It will now be my next purchase.

So word of advice, DON'T ask to try it just for the fun of it.

Speaking in the original lens in question, I'll tell you what's funny about this:

3rd party lenses such as Tamron and Sigma work just as well, for a fraction of the price. Also, that zoom will only allow you so much light. It won't work in every venue. That said, if money isn't an issue, the teh D700 looks pretty damn sharp.

Ah fuck, I take it back- that D700 looks like it can handle some pretty damn high ISO's with minimum noise as well, and if I read correctly, it shoots 8fps w/grip.

I usually use a 85mm 1.4 if I am cage/ringside. This Saturday I'm getting my first opportunity to shoot from above the cage. There will be a huge lighting canopy, so lighting should be excellent. I am thinking that the 24-70 2.8 might be the perfect lens for that night.

Yes you are correct, I'm shooting with a D700 and you can really pump the ISO (thats why I made the upgrade from the D300).

The worst case scenario I've had to shoot in was a Golden Gloves event where I was shooting at ISO 6400 at f/1.4:

That said, the downside of having to jack up the iso to extreme iso's is twofold: 1) the lack of contrast, and 2) slow AF.

Also picked up the Nikkon 70-200/2.8 VRII a few months back.

This lens is... so fast.
