hi all, been offered some music production software as a present, need some help deciding what to go for.

I have been using Audacity. I love it's simplicity, so I'm not looking for maximum bells and whistles - just better control over mixing and ability to sequence samples.

I also used to like reason but missed being able to sample/record.

so what should I consider?

Thanks in advance

How much is the giver willing to spend?

Mac or PC?

If you're into electronic based stuff/looping I'd look into Ableton Live. Never used it myself but electronic people seem to love it.

Also, check out Reaper, its very cheap (free for an uncrippled demo, its honor system for you to pay up). If it does what you needed maybe you can get some midi controllers or virtual instruments instead.

Do you have a proper recording interface?

I have plumped for FL Studio.

Thanks for the advice though, gave me a headache reading up on them.
