Looks like fun. I'm thinking I might want to give it a try. I don't know that the whitewater river thing interests me so much. I think I'd enjoy paddling around small lakes and stuff.

Please tell me everything.

I just got a kayak for my birthday. My wife found it at CostCo for $300+ bucks and it comes with everything except the life vest.

So far, it's been awesome. I've got some hooks and pulleys to store it on the ceiling of my garage. I can carry it by myself (slowly). It fits in the back of my truck. And it's pretty comfortable, even after 3 hours in the water. I've taken it out on some lakes and did just fine.

Next step, fishing from the kayak. I've never done fishing, so this should be good.
I'm also planning on entering a 1 mile race in Sept. That'll motivate me to train some.

someone did one of these threads recently. i have a tandem hybrid mildly rigged for fishing. got a little electric minn kota to throw on the transom and an anchor. i dont use it as much as i should.

just keep in mind that you will get wet and you'll typically be out in the full sun the entire time so its not the most comfortable activity for everyone.

Get a canoe and a friend can go with you, and more beer.

I sometimes kayak in quiet waters. River raft in the morning, kayak in the afternoon, sleep all next day. Good fun.
I want to scuba too!! Hopefully next month.

Would you recommend the desert or the Rocky Mountains?

after a fatal shark attack in solana beach where i kayak i did a bit of googling on what happens when great whites meet kayaks... from what i gather they will knock you off the kayak but probably bite you

I canoe and kayak hundreds of miles every year.

If all you want to do if paddle a little bit, then there are a ton of models that will fit the bill. Now if you want to use it occasionally for mild rivers, camping, fishing, photography, etc. then you options will be less. What is your size, and tell us what you want to do with it, then we can point you in the right direction.

A friend is just getting done paddleing the Yukon river by himself in a kayak. He has also done the entire Mississippi and Missouri rivers solo in a kayak.

I had a Gheenoe.
It was awesome for rivers and creeks.
Fished a lot with an electric trolling motor.
Actually bought a little Mercury gas motor and used it a bit before selling the whole thing.
